Rest of My Family
We are a travel-based, not-for-profit, social-work-through-art organization. At the core, we are on a mission to spread awareness about the ill-effects of a paradigm that is built along the lines of selfish-competition. Through our documentaries, art-based collaborations and community development projects we are striving to explore the negative aspects of a capitalistic/selfish way of life and in the process to also find alternative modes of community living.
An attempt to shift the foundation of our society from selfish-competition to mutual co-operation is at the crux of what drives us. What happens when we treat everyone’s problems as our own? What change occurs when we treat entire society as our own family? What happens when a person includes entire humanity into his/her circle of ‘me’ and ‘my’? These are some of the key questions that we wish to raise and answer through our documentary and social work efforts. As a part of #DriveForChange, our first campaign, we drove non-stop through various rural and tribal regions of India for an entire year. - Documenting culture, life and socio-economic challenges of various communities and initiating necessary community development projects to empower them all along.
Travelling
Traveling is at the core of our work. We travel into rural/tribal areas or uncharted routes based on our own research of the communities residing in these regions.
Local Communities
When we visit an area, we live with the local communities for an extended period of time. This helps us to understand their issues better and hence allows us to document the ground reality of the situation in these areas more effectively through documentary films, photo stories and other artistic collaborations. We then spread awareness and start a dialogue about these issues in public space.
Empowerment
During our stay with the community, we also identify development and community support projects through which we can empower and support various individuals and communities.
Collaboration
With our local social organization partners, Funding partners, and Crowd funding we implement these development projects and closely monitor their execution and progress.
Philosophy
"Since everyone we meet is part of our family, making maximum effort to solve their problems is our responsibility. Hence we document about social issues and human interest stories to raise awareness about an individual’s or community’s struggles. But we don’t stop there. Because it is not enough to just talk about one’s family’s problems. In order to support them, with the help of our funders and partners, we also extend necessary support to those we meet, live with and document about."
"We are a non-profit documentary/digital media and social work organization that is supported by the people, for the people. Our journey began with support from hundreds of our brothers and sisters through crowd funding and it is still a critical part of how we sustain ourselves and implement our community development/support projects. "
"We cannot solve our individual and social problems unless we understand the root causes behind them. All of our issues stem from our psychological, philosophical conditioning based upon predominant social norms and values. We are on a mission to address and re-shape the very foundation of our existing social construct. Join the movement."
